Under fire Alan Pardew linked with Crystal Palace

Alan Pardew has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Ian Holloway at Crystal Palace. According to reports the under-fire Newcastle manager could be set for a sensational return to the Eagles, with whom he made over 130 appearances for as a player. On Saturday Pardew’s odds were a colossal 100/1 (Sky Bet), however they have been slashed in the last few days, with the 52-year-old now available at just 14/1.
Tony Pulis (5/4) and Chris Coleman (7/4) remain locked in a battle at the top of the Next Crystal Palace Manager Betting, while Martin O'Neill (4/1) and Avram Grant (7/1) are also in the mix. Palace are currently marooned at the bottom of the Premier League with a pitiful three points from their opening nine games. The London club are in desperate need of a change of direction, with co-chairman Steve Parish eager to make an appointment as soon as possible.
Pardew had spoken of the importance of Newcastle's next three games prior to his side’s defeat to City in the League Cup on Wednesday. The Magpies suffered an extra-time defeat to City, which came four days after their Derby defeat to fierce rivals Sunderland. However, they must quickly lick their wounds as they face daunting back-to-back games against London duo Chelsea and Tottenham, who are 2nd and 4th respectively in the table.
