John Gregory named new Crawley Town bossby Jack Kitson / 03 December 2013, 10:40Tweet
As expected John Gregory has been appointed the new manager of League One side Crawley Town. The 59-year-old has put pen to paper and signed an 18-month deal with the Red Devils who sacked Richie Barker last week following a run of seven league games without a win.
It will be Gregory's first job in England since he managed QPR between 2006 and 2007. The former Aston Villa boss, who had been out of work since leaving Kazakhstan side FC Kairat two years ago, emerged as the surprise short-priced favourite for the Crawley job over the weekend and, now his appointment has been confirmed, he will look to get the club's play-off prospects back on track.
Gregory takes charge of a side who have slipped down to 15th in the table after a frustrating eight game winless run, during which they have found the back of the net just once. His first match at the helm will be away to Bristol Rovers on Saturday, with the Reds priced at 13/10 with William Hill to register their first league victory since mid-October.
