Steve Evans leading the race to become the Next Sheffield Wednesday Managerby Jack Kitson / 03 December 2013, 12:23Tweet
Steve Evans has been installed as the early favourite to succeed the sacked Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday. The Rotherham boss, who is currently odds-on for the job with all bookmakers, is set to be approached by the Owls who have pinpointed the Scot as their number one target.
On Sunday the Sheffield club axed Jones following their 2-0 defeat to Blackpool. In truth the decision was hardly a surprise with the Championship side enduring a torrid start to the new season, with just one win from 17 games leaving them 23rd in the league. It took Wednesday a whopping 13 matches to record that sole victory back at the start of November, while they are currently on a three game losing streak following defeats to Derby, Huddersfield and the Tangerines.
Evans has previously led the likes of Boston United, Crawley and Rotherham, who are currently 6th in League One. Due to his current position at the club the Owls would have to splash out in the region of £500,000 to land the Scot. However, according to reports he ie believed to be happy at the South Yorkshire side and is fully focused on leading their promotion charge.
