Quique Sanchez Flores, Sam Allardyce and Paulo Sousa linked with Southampton after Mark Hughes sacking

Southampton have sacked Mark Hughes following a wretched start to the Premier League season, during which they scraped only one win from 14 matches, a rotten run of results which leaves the club stuck in the relegation zone.

On Saturday the Saints recorded a 2-2 draw at home to Man Utd, a game they were leading by two goals after 20 minutes, however the point was not enough to save Hughes, as the Welshman becomes the second top-flight managerial casualty of the campaign - Fulham axed Slavisa Jokanovic last month.

So who will replace Hughes in the Saints dugout?

Former Watford boss Quique Sanchez is the early favourite to return to English football with Southampton. The Spaniard is ready and available, having left Espanyol in April.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, formerly of Leipzig, is also in the frame for the new vacancy, as are the likes of firefighter Sam Allardyce, Paulo Sousa, David Moyes, and Garry Monk, while Arsene Wenger is a 33/1 shot.

The Saints will no doubt be keen to make a swift appointment, given their precarious position in the table. The club are next in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Wembley to face Tottenham, who are of course managed by their former boss Mauricio Pochettino.
