Irvine parts company with Sheffield Wednesday

League One side Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that manager Alan Irvine has left the club with immediate effect.
Owls Chairman Milan Mandaric who last week had publically back his troubled manager held an emergency meeting with the board following the sides disastrous 5-3 defeat against play off hopefuls Peterborough United but with the fans turning against the manager and results not going the way they had hope he was left with little choice but to act sooner rather than later.
There has yet been no official word on who will be looking after the side for their upcoming match against MK Dons at the weekend but the club are expected to make a statement sometime today (Thursday). The odds of the next Sheffield Wednesday Manager have been released by bookmakers Victor Chandler who have made former player and ex Bolton Manager Gary Megson their favourite to be installed at Hillsborough at odds of 6/4.
Irvine had been manager at Wednesday for 13 months after taking over the job left vacant when Brian Laws left was removed from the role. Irvine was unable to stop Wednesday from being relegation from the Championship and so far this season the Owls have been struggling in League One and are currently in 12th position, five points clears from the relegation zone and eights points away from the much sought after play off spaces.
