Notts County caretaker Alan Smith favourite for permanent appointmentby Jack Kitson / 03 January 2017, 12:32Tweet
Notts County have revealed that Magpies player Alan Smith has been in placed in caretaker charge of the League Two outfit following Monday’s sacking of John Sheridan.
As a result, Smith has been installed as the new favourite to bag the job on a permanent basis, with the 36-year-old now priced at 6/4 (Bet Victor), ahead of the likes of Gary McAllister, Paul Cox and Nigel Adkins.
Smith, formerly of Man Utd, Newcastle, Leeds and MK Dons, joined Notts as a player-coach back in the summer of 2014.
Earlier this season (September) Smith stated that he was eyeing up a future career as a manager, and now he has the perfect opportunity to shine, providing that he’s still at the helm this weekend.
County, who are currently enduring a shocking nine game league losing streak, face Morecambe at the Globe Arena on Saturday, where they’ll be looking to pick up their first point since late October.
County have famously never been relegated out of the Football League but their shocking run of form leaves the struggling club just a single point above the relegation zone in 22nd.
