Jose Mourinho's future continues to dominate the headlines with a leading English tabloid reporting that he is set to put pen to paper and sign a contract with former club Chelsea on July 1. The Portuguese coach is still in contract at Real Madrid but made no secret of his desire to return to London after their Champions League exit on Tuesday.
This significant development is sure to delight many of the Chelsea faithful who are craving to see "The Special One" back at the Bridge, following six years in Italy and Spain. The paper also reveals that Mourinho will be offering a whopping £10million-a-year deal with the goal of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2010/11. Meanwhile Chelsea will have to shed out £12million to Real.
In Mourinho's first season with the Blues back in 2004/05 he led them to a league and cup double, and in the process set a league record haul of 95 points. The London club retained the title the following season and in his final campaign he won both domestic cups. However, he left in September 2007 without winning the Champions League trophy with Chelsea, which is something that he will be determined to win on his inevitable return.
Chelsea have a pre- season tour scheduled in the Far East in July, with their first match against a Singha All Stars XI in Thailand on the 17th. By this time fans can expect one or two new signings in the squad, which could include the in-demand Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.
