Real Madrid Sack Rafa Benitezby Andy Dillon / 04 January 2016, 19:13Tweet
Real Madrid have sensationally sacked Rafa Benitez after seven months at the helm. The decision comes less than 24 hours after Los Blancos drew 2-2 draw with Benitez's former side Valencia, which left 3rd-placed Real (just) four points adrift of La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.
The former Liverpool boss, who was a surprise summer appointment at the Bernabeu, has come under pressure throughout the season, none more so than back in November after his troops suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to fierce rivals Barcelona.
Real responded in style, recording five straight wins on the spin, before suddenly suffering a 1-0 defeat at Villarreal. However, the Spanish giants then conjured up a staggering 10-2 tonking of sorry Rayo Vallecano, followed by a 3-1 win against Real Sociedad, although they then came unstuck away to Gary Neville's Valencia, drawing 2-2 on Sunday.
Zinedine Zidane has now been handed the keys to the Real machine, how will he perform? The proof will be in the results - the club's next game is at home against Deportivo on Saturday.
