Joachim Low leaves Leroy Sane out of Germany's 2018 World Cup squadby Jack Kitson / 04 June 2018, 11:24Tweet
Joachim Low has sent shock waves around the world after he decided to leave Leroy Sane out of his Germany squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Yes, you did read that correctly.
The Man City star, who won the PFA young player of year award, enjoyed a stunning season with the record-breaking Citizens, playing a key role in their Premier League and League Cup double.
His tally of 15 league assists was only topped by teammate Kevin De Bruyne (16) across Europe's top five leagues.
However, the German will not be present in Russia this summer after Germany boss Low opted not to include him in his final 23-man World Cup squad, instead choosing Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt.
Sane is the major omission from an ultra-talent squad which features the likes of Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil, Marco Reus, Thomas Muller, and Mario Gomez, to name a few.
Meanwhile, Bernd Leno, Jonathan Tah and Nils Petersen are the other players to miss out.
Low travels to Russia bidding to become only the second manager in history to win the famous golden trophy on two occasions, while Germany are gunning to become the first country to retain the trophy since Brazil (1958 & 1962).
Germany open up their 2018 campaign against Group F opponents Mexico on Sunday 17th June, which is followed by clashes with Sweden and South Korea.
