Liverpool Sack Brendan Rodgersby Jack Kitson / 04 October 2015, 18:47Tweet
Brendan Rodgers has today (Sunday) become the second Premier League manager to lose his job after Liverpool sent him packing.
Earlier in the day the top-flight Sack Race exploded into life following Dick Advocaat's decision to resign from his post at Sunderland, with Rodgers now joining the Dutchman in the Job Centre.
Rodgers had been under immense pressure for sometime following a below-par start to the season, which has seen the club lose 3-0 at home to West Ham, and struggle past League Two Carlisle on penalties in the League Cup.
Last weekend Liverpool ended a torrid streak of four league games without a win after beating Aston Villa 3-2 at Anfield. A lacklustre 1-1 draw against Sion followed (Europa League), which only increased the pressure on his shoulders ahead of today's Merseyside derby.
The Reds took the lead through Danny Ings but a defensive mix-up allowed Romelu Lukaku to equalise on the stroke of half-time. The club's chiefs were obviously unhappy with the point as they decided to weild the axe shortly after.
