Adrian Pennock jumps to the top of the Next Gillingham Manager Marketby Jack Kitson / 05 January 2015, 17:37Tweet
Since the Gills sent Peter Taylor packing on New Year's Eve Dennis Wise has been the dominant figure at the top of the Next Gillingham Manager Market. However, today (Monday) club legend Adrian Pennock has emerged as the new 11/8 favourite with Sky Bet, whereas Wise has drifted out to 6/1, behind the likes of Mark Yates 9/2) and James Beattie (4/1).
The Gills are currently led by the caretaker quartet of Steve Lovell, Andy Hessenthaler, Darren Hare and Mark Patterson who last Saturday were fortunate not to come away from play-off chasing Port Vale with a point, after the hosts bagged a last-gasp winner. The band of four will remain in charge of the club's JP Trophy clash at home to high-flying Bristol City on Tuesday, for which they will be looking to make a mockery of the teams respective league positions by carving out the win.
However, none of the ensemble are considered major contenders for the job on a permanent basis, with former gaffer Hessenthaler way out at 25/1...and he has the shortest odds of the quad, although Lovell is believed to be keen to step up to the plate. Instead it is Pennock who now leads the way at the top of the betting. The Forest Green Rovers boss is a former Gills favourite who made over 130 appearances for the club between 1996 and 2003, and his appointment would no doubt go well down well with many supporters at Priestfield Stadium.
