Chelsea agree terms with Laurent Blanc but still want Maurizio Sarriby Jack Kitson / 05 June 2018, 08:39Tweet
Chelsea have reportedly agreed terms with Laurent Blanc to become their next manager, but still hold hopes of snapping up Maurizio Sarri, according to Sportitalia.
Blanc recently emerged as the new favourite in the Next Chelsea Manager Market, which followed media reports that the Blues, who are still managed by Antonio Conte, became frustrated in their pursuit of main target Sarri, who is still contracted to Napoli.
Chelsea are now believed to have held talks with free agent Blanc, and a deal has apparently been negotiated between the parties, although the Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has come out and said that the Frenchman remains Chelsea’s “Plan B”.
Chelsea still have their sights set on Sarri, but while the South West London club were previously put off by his £7m release clause, that has now expired, although talk of his homophobic comments - for which he was banned in 2016 - putting the club off a move, are reportedly just a smokescreen (FootballItalia).

Meanwhile, the Express reports that Chelsea will have to shed out £9m in compensation should they sack Conte, although there’s growing whispers that the Italian may even stay on at Stamford Bridge and see out the final year of his contract.
In two seasons Conte, who is a 9/1 shot for the Real Madrid job, has led Chelsea to the Premier League title and FA Cup glory, although last season’s 5th-placed finish means the club will be absent from the cash cow that is the Champions League.
