Man City coach Mikel Arteta linked with former clubs Arsenal and Everton

Talented coach Mikel Arteta could soon land his first job in management at one of his former stomping grounds, Arsenal and Everton, given the uncertain futures of their respective gaffers Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce.

Wenger has endured an absolutely shambolic couple of weeks, during which his confidence-crushed Arsenal side have been embarrassed by Ostersunds, comprehensively torn apart by Man City...twice, and then belittled by Brighton.

It now appears that the Frenchman may finally be gone come the summer, although it would come as no surprise if he stayed, much to the despair of many Arsenal fans.

Over on the blue side of Merseyside Everton could also be managerless in a few months, with Allardyce’s position coming under real threat. Big Sam enjoyed an initial manager bounce on his arrival at Goodison Park but has since come unstuck at the Toffees, winning only two of his last 11 matches.

A whole host of managers have been hotly linked with the Arsenal job, including Arteta, who now finds himself in the mix for the Everton post after bookmakers cut his odds to just 4/1.

The Spaniard arrived on these shores back in 2005 with Everton. He went on to make 208 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals, before sealing a £10million move to Arsenal in 2011.

Under Wenger Arteta lifted a brace of FA Cups and Community Shields during five years at the Emirates, during which he made 150 appearances, netting 17 goals.

After hanging up his boots Arteta was expected to take up a role at Arsenal, but instead ventured over to Man City to become a part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff.

The 35-year-old has since forged a reputation as a talented up-and-coming coach, helping the Citizens win the League Cup last month. The Premier League trophy is all but won, while Pep’s men are the favourites to win the Champions League.

Rumours are now rife that Arteta feels that come the summer the time is right to embark on his own career in management, and he would no doubt jump at the chance to take charge of either Arsenal and Everton, with the latter perhaps the more likely outcome.
