Next Liverpool Manager Market: Jurgen Klopp vs Carlo Ancelottiby Jack Kitson / 05 October 2015, 09:37Tweet
Whichever way you look at it the betting to become the Next Liverpool Manager was always going to be between two gaffers: Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti.
It's been revealed today (Monday), as expected, that the Reds have contacted the representatives of both managers over the new vacancy, which opened up on Sunday following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.
At the time of writing its Klopp who tops the betting at 3/10, while Ancelotti is hovering around the 3/1 mark. Below we assess the credentials of both managers:
Klopp For The Kop?
- Odds: 3/10 with Sky Bet
- Availability: Out of work
- Age: 48
- Former Clubs: Borussia Dortmund, FSV Mainz 05
- Honours: Bundesliga (2), DFB-Supercup (2), DFB-Pokal, T-Home Supercup, Champions League runner-up
Liverpool's other option is Ancelotti, and what an option that is. Klopp has been heavily linked with a move to the England ever since his shock decision to quit Borussia Dortmund.
The popular and charismatic German has enjoyed a bit of time off since leaving his beloved BVB back in May, but it now appears that the lure of the managerial arena is too much for the 48-year-old, who could be on the verge of testing himself in the murky waters of the Premier League.
Klopp's CV may not come close to the stunning achievements of Ancelotti, however his record at Dortmund is quite superb. Klopp, who took charge of Dortmund in 2008 after leaving FSV Mainz 05, went on to lead the Black and Yellows to a brace of Bundesliga titles, a couple of DFL-Supercup's, and a DFB-Pokal, while they also finished runner-up to rivals Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Truth be told Klopp would be a staggering edition to the Premier League. The German's energy, character and passion means he will be a huge hit at Anfield, and in all likeliness it will be him who is unveiled as Liverpool's new job ahead of the club's upcoming match against Tottenham (17th Oct).
Ancelotti Anfield Bound?
- Odds: 3/1 with Paddy Power
- Availability: Out of work
- Age: 56
- Former Clubs: Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, AC Milan, Juventus, Parma and Reggiana
- Honours: Champions League (3), Scudetto, Premier League, Ligue 1, FA Cup, Copa del Rey, Coppa Italia (and many more)
Liverpool's other option is Ancelotti, and what an option that is. The Italian is also on the market, having been out of work since the summer following Real Madrid's bizarre decision to replace him, just a year after he led the Spanish giants to their 10th Champions League title.
As mentioned, Ancelotti's CV is stunning. The Italian has won a plethora of honours during his managerial career, including Champions League successes with Real, and AC Milan (2), while he's hoisted league titles with Milan, Chelsea and PSG.
Ancelotti has already proved himself in England, winning the league and cup double with the Blues back in 2009/10, only to lose his job a year later after ending the season trophyless; a decision that was heavily criticised.
According to reports Ancelotti would prefer to take charge of a team in the Champions League, however the chance to manage a club with the history and support of Liverpool will surely be tempting for a manager who simply needs to the managerial arena ASAP!Follow @thesackrace
