FA Cup Upsets Could Put Pressure on Managers

It's that time of year again! The FA Cup proper begins this weekend with the first round of matches and fans of lower league teams from around the county can begin to dream of progressing to the third round and beyond where they will hope meet Premier League opponents and steal the headlines as Giant Killers. However, it is at this stage that the teams in Leagues One and Two are themselves the Giants as the 'Non League minnows' in the competition aim to slay there professional opponents. With little to lose, amateur sides have historically caused far more upsets in rounds one and two than in later rounds of the competition and whilst many fans of League clubs will be dreaming of the romance of the cup, managers will be fearing the worst as there is nothing worse than a Cup upset to act as a catalyst to a gaffer getting the boot!

We have listed below the FA Cup 1st round games where we think an upset could be on the cards.

AFC Telford v Lincoln City - Defeat would not cause a threat to Chris Sutton given he only took over at Sincil Bank in September. However, it would spell the end to the former Chelsea striker's honeymoon period after only two wins from his first six games in charge. Giant Killing Rating:
three-stars

Hereford v Sutton United - Sutton United are no strangers to cup upsets after beating Coventry in 1989. They will be confident of getting a result against a Hereford side who have struggled since being relegated from League Two. Hereford boss John Trewick should be safe regardless of the result but defeat would not leave Bulls fans impressed.
Giant Killing Rating:
two-stars

Nuneaton v Exeter - Paul Tisdale has worked wonders to guide Exeter to back to back promotions and defeat to Nuneaton in the FA Cup, whilst embarrassing, would not put his job at threat. Although this game does have upset written all over it.
Giant Killing Rating:
five-stars
