Republic of Ireland put faith in Martin O'Neill and Roy Keaneby Jack Kitson / 06 November 2013, 09:47Tweet
Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane have joined forces in an attempt to change of the fortunes of the Republic of Ireland national team. The dream duo have been handed a two-year deal, with O'Neill appointed manager and Keane taking up a role as his assistant.
Ireland had been searching for a new coaching team since September when they parted company with Giovannis Trapattoni after he failed to lead them through to the 2014 World Cup. Ireland endured a disappointing and frustrating campaign, which saw them finish down in 4th in Group C, a whopping six points adrift of second-placed Sweden.
There will now be a lot of expectation on O'Neill and Keane who will be tasked with leading Ireland through to the 2016 European Championships. They will be trust straight into the spotlight next Friday when Ireland host Latvia, before taking on Poland four days later in two international friendly fixtures.
