Shaun Derry to team up with Greg Abbott at Notts County

Shaun Derry is set to jump in at the deep end and begin his managerial career at League One strugglers Notts County. The QPR player, who is currently on-loan at Millwall, emerged as the hot favourite for the job last week and at the time of writing (Wednesday) can be found at just 1/9 (Sky Bet) in the betting to replace Chris Kiwomya at Meadow Lane.
Derry began his playing career at County, with whom he made 82 appearances for and played a part in helping them win the Division Three title in 1998. According to reports the 35-year-old will be appointed at some point this week before the Magpies’ FA Cup clash at Hartlepool on Saturday, with the ex-Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott coming in as his assistant.
There is no doubting that Derry and Abbott have a huge task on their hands as they bid to save County’s season. The Nottingham side are currently rock-bottom of the third-tier, having scraped together just three league wins all campaign, however the new arrivals in the dugout will be hoping to inspire a change in fortunes at Meadow Lane.
