Heat on Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray following cup exitby Jack Kitson / 07 August 2013, 09:41Tweet
The 2013/14 season has only just got underway but it already looks like Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray is under pressure. The Championship club suffered an opening day defeat at home to Leicester City at the weekend, which was followed by an embarrassing early exit to League Two outfit Accrington in the Capital One Cup. It is safe to say that this was not the start they envisioned, and as a result Mowbray is currently the favourite in the Championship Sack Race
Mowbray has been in charge of the Teessiders since October 2010 but in three seasons has failed to guide them into the play-offs. The loss to Leicester was remarkably their 16th league defeat of the year, while Tuesday’s upset at home to Accrington means they have now won only two of their last 18 league and cup games.
Boro have been stuck in the ever competitive Championship now for five years, and last season they stumbled to a shocking 16th place standing - just five points above the relegation zone - following a poor second-half of the campaign, where they won just two of their final 15 league games.
The club’s supporters are simply desperate for a return to the top-flight, and Mowbray believes that they have the resources and ability to mount a push for promotion and finish in the top-6. Bet Victor have the Riverside club priced at 11/1 to get promoted, while they are a whopping 40/1 with Bet365 to win the league. Elsewhere they can be found at 9/1 with Coral to suffer relegation at the end of the campaign.
Boro travel to Charlton on Saturday looking to bounce back from their opening two defeats. They can currently be found at 5/2 with Bet Victor to come away with the three points, while the hosts are available at 23/20 to win the match.
