Megson Stands Defiant as Wanderers Lose Againby Jack Kitson / 07 December 2009, 12:02Tweet
Gary Megson refused to admit that he was under pressure at the weekend despite another defeat which left his Bolton side deep in the relegation zone and starring a dogfight directly in the face, this time Wanderers went down to relegation rivals Wolves in what was being dubbed as a 'six pointer' even at this early stage of the season. The defeat at Molineux meant that The Trotters now sit second from bottom just ahead of Portsmouth who also won on Saturday to add to Gary Megson's despair, Bolton have now gone five games without a win in the Premier league with their last three points coming at home to Everton all the way back on the 25th October.
Megson has never been particularly popular at the Reebok Stadium with the fans but while the results were decent he retained enough support to keep his job but with the team looking bereft of ideas his position is becoming more and more uncertain with most fans now calling for his head. This has been reflected in the Next Premier League Manager to be Sacked Betting with Megson now as short as 6/4 to be the next Manager to be given the elbow, his odds have been slashed over the last month and the bookies are certain he is on his way any day now.
To make matters worse for Bolton on Saturday, one of Wolves' goals was clearly off-side which only added to the bad mood of Megson, however he said he was just focusing on the task at hand, "It is not a case of pressure. You get the phone-ins, you get people writing in but you get on with it." he said after the defeat.
Sources close to the Sack Race have told us that Megson's future could be decided over the next week with The Trotters playing two consecutive home games against Man City on Saturday and then a huge match-up against West Ham following on the 15th December. The Hammers are also struggling at the bottom of the table and a defeat to them at the Reebok Stadium is likely to seal Megson's fate, there is no doubt what Gary Megson wants for Christmas and that is a couple of juicy home wins over the next week other wise it could be depressing festive period in the Megson household.
