Gus Poyet new favourite for Nottingham Forest jobby Jack Kitson / 08 April 2016, 10:34Tweet
Gus Poyet has emerged as the new odds-on favourite (4/6, Sky Bet) to become the Next Nottingham Forest Manager. The Uruguayan is currently managing in Greece with AEK Athens, however he'll no doubt be tempted by a return to these shores in the summer when his contract at the Olympic Stadium expries.
Poyet has leaped above the likes of Nigel Clough, Martin O'Neill, and Steve Evans in the betting, while caretaker boss Paul Williams is now out at 25/1 to land the job on a permanent basis.
Nigel Pearson, Martin O'Neil and Gus Poyet are all managers I'd like to see at Forest. Steve Evans on the other hand... #nffc— Nathan Fletcher (@Nathan_CTR) April 8, 2016
Poyet previously led Brighton into the Championship, as League One champions, and then into the play-offs, only to infamously discover news of his Seagulls sacking while working live on BBC a month later during the 2013 Confederations Cup.
The former Chelsea midfielder returned to the dugout four months later (October) with Sunderland, leading the club to the League Cup final - losing to Man City - and then miraculously preserving their Premier League safety after a superb late run of form.
Poyet was sacked the following March after a 4-0 hammering at home to relegation rivals Aston Villa, taking seven months out of the game, before returning to the dugout with AEK Athens last October in a deal running through to the summer.
Williams has been in charge of the Forest first team since Dougie Freedman's departure last month, but has so far picked up just one point from four games at the helm, with a tricky fixture against promotion chasing Brighton up next on Monday.
