Andy Awford odds-on favourite to take charge of Plymouth Argyleby Jack Kitson / 08 June 2015, 09:12Tweet
The Next Plymouth Argyle Manager Market has taken another twist after Andy Awford and Steve Lomas emerged as major contenders for the job over the weekend.
Awford was previously hovering out at the 20/1 mark on Sunday, however the former Portsmouth boss now finds himself installed as the 8/11 (Sky Bet) favourite to succeed at John Sheridan at Home Park. Meanwhile, ex-Millwall boss Lomas is a best-priced 6/1, behind former frontrunner Graham Coughlan (11/4).
Awford is eager to return to the managerial arena following his first and only job at Portsmouth. The 42-year-old originally took charge of the south coast side in a caretaker capacity back in March 2014, but a superb start to life in the dugout - five wins from five matches - saw him save Pompey from the dreaded drop, which resulted in a one-year rolling contract at Fratton Park.
Portmouth were installed as one of the ante-post favourites for promotion up to League One last season, however they never clicked into gear, with Awford parting ways with the club in mid-April, leaving them 14th in the table.
Meanwhile, Lomas is also attempting to forge his way back into the dugout, emerging as the favourite for the Plymouth post over the weekend. The 41-year-old, who has since been pegged back ton 6/1, has been jobless since 2013 following a disappointing six month spell in charge of Millwall.
Although, the former Man City defender has previously enjoyed success at St Johnstone, with whom he led to back-to-back qualification for Europe for the first time in their history.
