Roberto Martinez favourite in Next Everton Manager Marketby Jack Kitson / 08 May 2013, 14:55Tweet
Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to retire at the end of the season has sent shockwaves through the football world. The legendary manager's success in England is unprecedented and it is going to take a man of a specific mould to succeed him at Old Trafford.
Everton’s David Moyes has been widely touted as the man to replace his fellow Scot, which is reflected in the Next Man Utd Manager Market, in which he is the hot odds-on favourite with all bookmakers. Sources reveal that the 50-year-old is in "pole position" and an announcement is expected to be made in the next 24 hours. Other contenders include Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp, although their odds have drifted.
With Moyes seemingly edging closer and closer towards the United hot seat, speculation is rapidly growing on who will replace him at Goodison Park, should he depart. This outcome would force Everton to search for a new manager for the first time since way back in 2002.
As things stand Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is the short-priced 4/6 favourite with Sky Bet in the Next Everton Manager Market. The Spaniard was approached by both Liverpool and Aston Villa last summer but opted to remain faithful to Dave Whelan and the Latics. However, should they be relegated at the end of the season he will undoubtably be keen to get back in the big time, with Everton an attractive option.
Celtic's Neil Lennon and Cardiff boss Malky Mackay are next in the running, while other bookmakers have the likes of Gus Poyet, Roberto Di Matteo and Martin O'Neill as key contenders.
