Nigel Pearson named manager of the monthby Mick Bates / 08 May 2015, 10:48Tweet
It has certainly been an up and down month for Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson, at the start of April he was the favourite in the next Premier League manager to be sacked market at odds of around 4/1, today he is showing at odds of 100/1 and has just been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for April!
At the beginning of the month the Foxes boss had only achieved one victory in 2015, that was back in January with a 1-0 win over Midlands rivals Aston villa (although an impressive point was gained against Liverpool in their 2-2 draw on New Year's Day), the following eight fixtures resulted in just 2 points from 24 for the manager so it did look as if the club were heading for relegation back to the Championship. However, an impressive run of four back to back victories in April has put the Foxes out of the relegation zone and one point clear of safety.
However, off the pitch, Pearson has not won any favours amongst the local media, his ostrich-gate outburst on poor journalist Ian Baker (for which the manager has since apologised) has seen the Leicester manager thrust into the media spotlight once again for the wrong reasons.
It is safe to say that Pearson will now be looking to the next three fixtures, which feature two of the teams caught up in the relegation dogfight.
- Southampton (h)
- Sunderland (a)
- QPR (h)
From these games, Pearson will be realistically looking to claim six of the nine points on offer, victories over Sunderland and QPR will put him and the club to safety and enable Premier League football next season.
