Steve Bruce could switch Aston Villa for Leeds Unitedby Jack Kitson / 09 June 2018, 07:24Tweet
Marcelo Bielsa has dominated the Next Leeds United Manager Market throughout the last week, but the Argentine now has company in the form of Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce who has been cut to just 2/1 to switch the Midlands for Yorkshire.
Negotiations with Bielsa are proving to be arduous - as you’d expect - which has reportedly resulted in Leeds sounding out Bruce, whose own future at financially troubled Villa is currently shredded in doubt.
The Telegraph reports that the Whites are mulling over a potential move for the 57-year-old, who has won a record four promotions up to the Premier League, while he agonisingly missed out on a fifth last season after Villa lost to Fulham in the play-off final.
Just finishing in the top-6 alone would be an achievement for Leeds who have not featured in the Championship play-offs since way back in 2006.
Bruce has grown frustrated at the lack of communication with Villa owner Tony Xia, who is believed to have blanked Bruce since the defeat to Fulham.
The very real threat of administration, the likely loss of key players, and a severely slashed budget, means that the main priority could switch from promotion, to attempting to avoid the dreaded drop down to League One.
With this in mind, Bruce could well be tempted to hear what Leeds have to say.
The chance to become the first manager since Howard Wilkinson in 1989/90 to lead Leeds back into the Premier League is no doubt a tempting prospect for Bruce, with whom Paddy Power have cut from 16/1 to 2/1 in the next White manager market.
Many Leeds fan will be hoping that their club can prize odds-on favourite Bielsa (5/6) over to Elland Road, which still appears the most likely option at this stage - what an appointment that would be for the club.
