Craig Bellamy Favourite For Cardiff City Job As Slade Switches To Head Of Football Roleby Steve Chambers / 09 May 2016, 10:59Tweet
Craig Bellamy has been installed as the clear favourite for the Cardiff City manager's job after Russell Slade watched his Bluebirds side draw 1-1 against Birmingham City in their final Championship game of the season on Saturday afternoon, and now the 55-year-old will now focus his attentions on his new role as head of football for the Welsh side.
Slade has indicated that he feels the new manager will have a squad blessed with Premier League potential, as Cardiff look to return to the top flight after a 2015/2016 season that saw them finish just outside of the play-offs, but it's the aforementioned Bellamy, who is a red-hot favourite in the Next Cardiff City Manager Betting and may prove a popular choice amongst the passionate fans.
A glittering career in the Premier League saw the Welsh international shine at the highest level, but he opted to drop down a division in the latter part of his career and made 55 appearances for Cardiff City playing for a side he supported as a youngster.
After hanging up his boots in 2014, Bellamy was then drafted into the coaching staff at Cardiff, and his current position as an academy coach will certainly aid his chances of gaining his dream job, but this position is sure to prove popular amongst proven managers and a raft of applications are sure to be received.
Paul Clement is a challenger towards the head of the betting, as he aims to return to management following his departure from Derby County, whilst Tony Pulis, Neil Warnock and Nigel Pearson are just another trio of names that have been linked with the position.
Just saw Craig Bellamy filling up his car, asked him if he has any job interviews this week. Replied: "I doubt that very much" #bluebirds— Twm Owen (@NewsatTwm) May 8, 2016
