Everton target Porto's title winning manager Sergio Conceicao

Sam Allardyce's future at Everton has been the subject of widespread debate for some time now.

Saturday’s lacklustre 1-1 draw with Southampton did nothing to encourage doubters that Big Sam is the right man to take Everton forward, with the late equaliser masking what was otherwise a poor performance in the club’s final home game of the season.

It’s now looking increasingly likely that Everton will pull the plug on their partnership with the former England boss come the end of the season.

Marco Silva, who the Toffees tried to appoint before Allardyce, remains the frontrunner in the Next Everton Manager Market, ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, Louis van Gaal, and Arsene Wenger.

However, The Times report that Porto manager Sergio Conceicao (10/1) is the man on Everton’s managerial radar.

Over the weekend Conceicao’s Porto were crowned champions of Portugal for the 28th time in their history after they ended Benfica’s four-year Primeira Liga dominance.

Conceicao, who had two spells at Porto as a player, replaced former teammate Nuno Santo in the dugout last June after leaving his post at French side Nantes.

Conceicao had previously held various positions in his homeland, including a stint at Braga who lost on penalties to Sporting in the 2014/15 Taca de Portugal final.

However, in his maiden season at Porto he’s rejuvenated the Dragoes after four stagnant seasons in the league, moulding together a collective unit who have accumulated a whopping 27 wins from their 33 league games to date, firing in 81 goals along the way.

Conceicao’s not known for long spells at clubs, lasting a season or less in each of his previous five tenures in management, while Porto is the only outfit where he’s hit the 50 game mark.

This perhaps gives Everton a glimmer of hope that they can somehow lure him over to Goodison Park this summer, although given his current success at Porto, it’s difficult to see the 43-year-old leaving the Estadio do Dragao anytime soon.
