Time at Club:
Chesterfield are now on the hunt for a new manager following the dismissal of Martin Allen who had only secured just four wins for the Spireites from 25 games in charge and has left the club in the relegation zone of the National League.
Chesterfield sacked Jack Lester in April 2018 after the club were effectively relegated out of the Football League. Ian Evatt took charge of the team to the end of the season, assisted by academy coach Miguel Llera before Martin Allen took charge for the upcoming 2018/19 season.
Caldwell replaced Danny Wilson back in January 2017, only to suffer relegation down to League Two, a year after hoisting the League One title with the Latics. How times change. However, after only eight games into the 2017/18 League Two season he was axed.
Perhaps the most memorable spell in the recent history of Chesterfield came in 1997 when they went all the way through to the FA Cup Semi-Finals. In fact they were a whisker away from making the final after pushing Premier League Middlesbrough to a replay before finally losing.
Chesterfield have reaped 5 wins in the last 10 games, beating Boreham Wood, Maidstone United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Sutton United & Havant & Waterlooville. 2 draws against Dover Athletic & Bromley and defeats to Maidenhead, Gateshead & Eastleigh has seen them score 19 at an average of 1.9 goals per game while shipping 13.
