Time at Club:
Macclesfield Town are managed by Sol Campbell who was eventually chosen as the official replacement for Mark Yates.
Established in 1874, Macclesfield were a team synonymous with the Non League scene, but it would be the mid-1990s that they would gain that all-important step up into the Football League, a place they have stayed ever since.
Under the stewardship of former Manchester United midfielder Sammy McIlroy, the Silkmen managed to win the Vauxhall Conference, but were unable to gain promotion as their ground Moss Rose was not up to league standards.
However, it wasn't too long until they could celebrate a league title again, as the 1996-1997 season saw them storm to the title again and with redevelopment at Moss Rose now meeting the Football League standards, they were able to take up their promotion and ventured into the Football League.
Since then they have cemented their place in the lower echelons of the Football League and under Gary Simpson they were looking to try and make it into League One, but their League Two status is certainly the most important thing for the Silkmen.
Notable managers alongside McIlroy have been Brian Horton and Keith Alexander, who sadly passed away when still managing the club and will allways be a person that is precious to the Cheshire club.
Numerous draws but few defeats has seen Macclesfield Town enjoy a strong run of results. Defeats against Northampton Town & Forest Green are the only black marks on a run that has seen them amass wins against Port Vale, Exeter City & Yeovil Town while sharing the spoils versus Cambridge United, Newport County, Morecambe, Lincoln City & Stevenage
